Morgans Run Drive — Driveway Regrade & Parking Area | Morrow, Ohio

Project Overview

This property on Morgans Run Drive in Morrow, Ohio had a driveway that had seen years of regular use without proper maintenance. The edges had grown in with grass, narrowing the usable lane significantly. A grass berm had developed down the center of the drive, reducing the effective width and trapping moisture against the existing stone base. The overall grade had settled unevenly over time, creating soft spots and poor drainage that were accelerating the deterioration. The homeowner also needed a proper parking area added to the property — a defined, stable surface for daily vehicle use off the main drive.

MW Martin Services was brought in to address all of these issues in a single, comprehensive job. We used a skid steer to reclaim the overgrown edges, strip the center berm, and regrade the full driveway profile from end to end. From there, we brought in 28 tons of Type-C limestone as a new base layer, compacted it thoroughly, and finished the surface with 27 tons of #411 limestone — tailgated in and finish-graded to a clean, even surface. No shortcuts, no partial fixes. The whole driveway got the treatment it needed.

The Problem — What We Found on Arrival

  • Edges overgrown: Grass had encroached on both sides of the driveway, narrowing the driving surface and making the effective lane width significantly smaller than the original build.
  • Center berm: A grass strip running down the middle of the drive was trapping water and causing surface unevenness — a direct result of the driveway losing its crown over years of traffic.
  • Settled grade: Years of vehicle traffic and freeze-thaw cycles had caused the driveway profile to lose its crown and proper pitch, leaving water with no clear path off the surface.
  • No parking area: The property lacked a defined, stable area for vehicles to park off the main drive, resulting in informal parking on soft ground.
  • General surface deterioration: The existing stone surface had worn thin and was no longer providing adequate coverage or structural support across the full driveway length.

The Work — How We Fixed It

  1. Edge reclamation with skid steer — We cut back the grass on both sides of the driveway, restoring the original lane width and creating a clean, defined shoulder along the full length of the drive.
  2. Center grass removal — The berm running down the middle of the drive was stripped out completely with the skid steer, leveling the profile and opening proper drainage through the center of the lane.
  3. Full regrade — The entire driveway was regraded using the skid steer to restore proper crown, pitch, and water runoff from one end of the drive to the other.
  4. Parking area construction — A new, level pad was shaped and graded to create a defined parking area on the property, built to handle regular vehicle traffic without settling or rutting.
  5. Type-C base installation (28 tons) — Angular base limestone was tailgated in and spread across the full driveway and parking area, then compacted thoroughly to form a solid, interlocked foundation before any finish material was applied.
  6. #411 top coat installation (27 tons) — Finish limestone was tailgated in over the compacted base, spread evenly across the full surface, and compacted to a firm, clean final grade that will hold up to daily traffic.

Result

The Morgans Run Drive property came away with a completely refreshed driveway — wider, properly graded, and topped with fresh limestone from one end to the other. The parking area gives the homeowner a designated, stable surface off the main drive that's ready for daily use. Both the driveway and the parking pad are built on a properly compacted Type-C base, which means they'll hold up to regular vehicle traffic with minimal maintenance required going forward.

This is exactly the kind of job MW Martin Services was built for — a multi-problem driveway that needed more than just a dump-and-spread. We addressed the root causes: reclaimed the edges, eliminated the center berm, corrected the grade, and put the right materials down in the right order. The result is a driveway that functions correctly and will continue to do so. That's the standard we hold ourselves to on every job we take.
