Long Gravel Driveway Restoration & Culvert Replacement in Williamsburg, Ohio

This Williamsburg, Ohio driveway project involved restoring more than 1,100 feet of existing gravel driveway, improving the entrance drainage, replacing the existing culvert, resurfacing the driveway with #411 limestone, and restoring the parking and turnaround areas near the home.

Years of use had left portions of the driveway thin and uneven, with vegetation growing through the existing stone and areas that needed to be reshaped before new limestone could be properly placed.

Before Work Began

Culvert Replacement and Entrance Drainage

Before the driveway resurfacing could begin, the entrance drainage needed attention. The existing culvert was removed and the entrance was excavated to prepare for the replacement pipe.

The new culvert was installed with #57 limestone used for bedding and support before the entrance was rebuilt and prepared to tie back into the restored gravel driveway.

From Existing Drainage to a Rebuilt Entrance

The before photos show just how buried and difficult to see the existing culvert had become. With the original conditions documented, work could begin on opening the entrance, removing the old culvert, and rebuilding the crossing around the new pipe.

The photos below show the culvert replacement taking shape, from excavation through the rebuilt entrance.

Before the Driveway Restoration

With the culvert and entrance work completed, attention turned to the driveway itself. The existing surface showed years of wear, with grass and organic material working into the stone and areas that needed to be reshaped before new limestone was placed.

Near the garage, the existing driveway elevation had also left a substantial step at the entrance. The project would address the driveway from end to end while also extending the parking and turnaround area near the house.

The photos below document the driveway conditions before restoration began.

Restoring the Driveway and Expanding the Parking Area

Once the existing conditions were documented, the driveway restoration could begin. The surface was worked and reshaped before new limestone was placed throughout the drive, creating a refreshed driving surface from the entrance back to the house.

At the garage, additional stone was used to bring the approach up much closer to the garage entrance, correcting the substantial step visible in the before photos.

The parking and turnaround area near the house was also extended, creating additional usable gravel space.
