ABOUT — MORROW, OH
Morrow is a small village tucked into the river valleys of Warren County, Ohio, where the Little Miami River meets Todd Fork. It covers just over two square miles of land, but what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in character — a deep-rooted history tied to the railroad, a thriving arts and artisan community, and a front-row seat to some of the best outdoor recreation in Southwest Ohio.
History of Morrow, Ohio
Morrow was laid out in August 1844 by William H. Clement, George Keck, and Clark Williams — three men who were actively involved in the construction of the Little Miami Railway, which was being built through the area at that time. The town contained 49 original lots and was recorded in January 1845. It was named in honor of Jeremiah Morrow (1771–1852), a Warren County native who holds an impressive place in Ohio history: he was Ohio's first U.S. Congressman, serving as the state's sole representative for its first decade of statehood, and later became Ohio's 9th Governor. He was also the first president of the Little Miami Railway Company — which made naming the railroad's new townsite after him a fitting tribute.
As of the most recent U.S. Census estimates, Morrow has a population of approximately 2,500 residents. The village has seen notable growth over the past several years — up 26% between 2019 and 2023 alone — reflecting broader growth trends across Warren County. The median age is around 32 years, giving Morrow a relatively young community profile. Most residents own their homes, and the majority of households have two or more vehicles — a practical reality in a rural village where driving is a way of life.
The Little Miami Scenic Trail is one of Ohio's longest and most heavily used paved multi-use trails, and it runs directly through the heart of Morrow. The trail follows the former railroad corridor along the Little Miami River valley, spanning 50 miles of paved surface from Terrace Park in Hamilton County to Hedges Road in Greene County. Morrow is one of the key trailside stops along the route, with parking, restrooms, and access to nearby shops and eateries. Whether you're cycling a short stretch or riding end-to-end, Morrow makes an ideal starting point or midday stop.
The Little Miami River is a State and National Scenic River, and Morrow sits right on its banks. The river offers paddlers roughly 86 miles of accessible waterway, ranging from easy floats to more technical stretches depending on water levels. Canoeing and kayaking are popular, with canoe liveries and outfitters operating in the area seasonally. Anglers target smallmouth bass and rock bass throughout the river corridor, and the riverbanks support a wide variety of bird species — including blue herons, warblers, and kingfishers — making it a rewarding destination for birdwatchers as well.

Why Morrow Properties Need Professional Driveway Work
Warren County's rural landscape is as beautiful as it is demanding on private driveways. Much of the area sits on clay-heavy subsoil — a substrate that holds water instead of draining it. When clay saturates, it loses its load-bearing capacity and starts to shift under vehicle weight. Gravel driveways built without a proper base layer on this kind of soil won't last. They'll rut, sink, and wash out, often within a single season of hard use.
Ohio's freeze-thaw cycles compound the problem significantly. Through a typical winter, ground moisture freezes and expands, then thaws and contracts — sometimes dozens of times between November and March. Each cycle works at the base material, heaving stone, cracking crowns, and widening soft spots. By spring, driveways that looked acceptable in the fall often require serious intervention. The longer the driveway, the more surface area exposed to this process and the more material it takes to correct.
Long private driveways are common in the Morrow area — quarter-mile and half-mile drives off rural roads aren't unusual here. Length means more variables: more elevation changes, more drainage crossings, more sections where grade and crown need to be actively maintained. A driveway that's neglected for two or three seasons can deteriorate to the point where a simple top coat no longer solves the problem. Base work becomes necessary, and base work is a larger investment.
Gravel is still the right surface choice for most rural properties in this area. It's cost-effective, drains naturally when properly installed, handles heavy equipment and loaded trailers without cracking, and can be maintained and resurfaced over time. The key is doing it right the first time — correct base material, proper compaction, and the right grade so water sheds off the surface and away from your foundation. That's where MW Martin Services comes in.
Our Limestone Materials — What We Use and Why
Type-C Limestone is the angular crushed stone we use as a compactable base layer. Its irregular edges interlock under pressure, which means it doesn't shift, slide, or wash out the way rounded aggregate does. When properly compacted into Ohio's clay subsoil, Type-C forms a stable foundation that both sheds water and resists the lateral movement that causes rutting. It's the material that makes everything above it perform correctly — skip it or undercut it, and the surface won't last.
#411 Limestone is a blend of #57 crushed stone and limestone fines — the preferred top coat for driveways across Ohio. When it compacts, the fines fill the voids between the larger stone, producing a firm, dense surface that handles daily vehicle traffic without kicking up loose gravel or developing ruts. It looks clean, holds its shape, and resists erosion. We use #411 as the finish coat on every driveway build and resurface job, applied over a solid Type-C base for results that hold up season after season.
