Construction Driveway Installation in Hillsboro, OH — Preparing for a New Home Build

This project in Hillsboro, OH was the first phase of a brand‑new home build. The homeowner needed a solid construction driveway installed so contractors, equipment, and deliveries could access the property without getting stuck or tearing up the ground. The entrance had already been started by someone else, but he needed me to continue the driveway another 100 feet into the property.

If you’re planning a new build and need a driveway cut in, you can learn more on our Gravel Driveway Installation Services page.

Cutting In the New Driveway Section

Using my John Deere 323E CTL, I cut the new section of driveway down about 6 inches to establish a proper base. All the removed soil was stockpiled neatly off to the side for the homeowner to use later for grading or landscaping.

A clean cut and proper depth are critical for long‑term durability — especially for construction traffic.

If your property also needs drainage or culvert work before a driveway goes in, check out our Culvert Pipe Installation & Drainage Services.

Building the Base With #2 Limestone

Once the cut was complete, I hauled in 27 tons of #2 limestone with my dump truck. I tailgated the stone into the new section to get an even spread, then compacted it thoroughly using the CTL.

#2 limestone creates a strong, stable foundation that can handle heavy trucks, concrete mixers, and equipment during the construction phase.

Adding #304 Limestone for Strength and Smoothness

After the base was locked in, I hauled in 40 tons of #304 limestone. I spread the material with the dump truck and finished grading it with the CTL and grading attachment.

#304 is perfect for construction driveways because it compacts tight, drains well, and provides a smooth, durable surface that won’t rut easily.

About Hillsboro, Ohio

Hillsboro is the county seat of Highland County and one of the region’s historic rural hubs. Founded in 1807, the town was named for the rolling hills surrounding the original settlement. Today, Hillsboro has a population of around 6,500 residents and serves as a central community for families, farms, and small businesses throughout the area.

The city is known for:

  • Its scenic countryside and rolling hills
  • A strong agricultural heritage
  • A historic uptown district with 19th‑century architecture
  • Local shops, bakeries, and long‑standing businesses
  • Easy access via U.S. Routes 50 and 62

Hillsboro also played a major role in American history — it was the birthplace of the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union in 1873, a movement that later influenced women’s suffrage and national reform.

With its mix of farmland, wooded lots, and rural properties, gravel driveways and construction access roads are extremely common for homeowners preparing to build or improve their land.

Ready for Construction Traffic

By the time the job was finished, the homeowner had a clean, solid, professionally graded construction driveway that will hold up throughout the entire building process. No mud, no ruts, no access issues — just a reliable lane built to handle Ohio weather and heavy equipment.
